They came from far and wide to visit AMB Ecosteryl. An Iranian delegation came to visit the Belgian company specialising in the treatment of hospital waste.
Olivier Dufrasne, vice-president of AMB Ecosteryl: “Iran is a difficult market to access but has a large population, which generates a lot of hospital waste and has a serious problem to solve with it. For AMB, it would be a great challenge to be able to offer our Belgian solutions to the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as in all the countries of the world.”
How to dispose of syringes, sharp or contaminated tools? Ecosteryl offers an ecological solution to a universal problem.
Hassan Hashemi, Minister of Health of Iran: “Yes, we have the same problem in Iran with medical waste. In fact, it is a problem that exists all over the world, we are not spared. Of course, we have some machines in our country. We made some of them and imported them from abroad. They are active in different hospitals but what we have seen today is really unique and special. We look forward to working with Belgium in the future.”
Although the company is based in Mons and Jemappes, it does not carry out a single sale in Belgium.
Olivier Dufrasne: “Absolutely. Today, AMB sells 100% of its products for export. We are present in 50 countries on 5 continents with about 130 machines installed and we hope to soon, even if, as we say, no one is a prophet in his own country, one day we will have the chance to offer our solution in Belgium.”
The treatment of medical waste also concerns Belgium. If Ecosteryl does not sell within the borders of its own country, it is for a very different reason.
Olivier Dufrasne: “Today in Belgium, there is a relatively simple situation. It is currently managed by intercommunal companies that invested in incinerators when we were not yet on the market. So somewhere, I would say, the train went a little ahead of time for us, but of course we do not despair that when the Belgian incinerators have run out of time, the intermunicipal authorities will turn to more environmentally friendly local processes.”
Meanwhile, foreign investors are marching by. The company is waiting for the visit of the president of Argentina.
