1. Weighing, handling & loading

A container (240, 660 or 770 liters) is installed on the handling system. After weighing, an automatic elevator device lifts the container and dumps it in the loading hopper.
Via a hydraulic cylinder, the loading hopper opens automatically when a container arrives.

2. Shredding

When the lid of the loading hopper is closed, the waste is gradually pushed to a powerful shredder by a hydraulic arm. A screen is placed under the shredder to reach a waste size under 30 mm diameter. The shredder is of the four axes type including an automatic anti-blocking device reversing of the direction of the operation of the two motors in case of blockage to avoid an unnecessary maintenance.

The shredded waste falls to the under-shredder hopper where all types of waste are homogeneous mixed before the decontamination phase.

3. Microwaves

The decontamination starts with the microwaves process. A processing screw in a spiral design brings the waste into a tube where it is heated up to a temperature of 100°C (212°F) by microwaves generated by magnetrons. This process lasts about 3 min.

A control system adjusts the operation of the equipment to maintain the desired temperature at the end of the zone (the microwave power and the screw speed are controlled).

4. Holding, treatment & final output

The waste enters the holding hopper where its temperature is maintained at 100°C (212°F) during 1 hour thanks to electrical resistances.
This formula of 1 hour at 100°C (212°F) combined with microwaves action completely decontaminates infectious medical waste.
At the end of the process, the waste leaves the equipment through a conveyor (of the spiral type).

A programmable controller with a touch-screen allows the automatic operation, real-time monitoring, control and storage of the equipment operating parameters.
