Biomedical waste treatment in Senegal
Senegal generates more than 20.000 tons of biomedical waste per year. The existing solutions for the treatment of this hazardous waste need to be strengthened in order to fully treat the quantities produced and to avoid their presence in nature.
Having noticed the challenge of treating healthcare waste and having measured the extent of the health and environmental risks incurred in the event of poor management, Dr SETT has committed itself to working with the public and private players in the Senegalese health sector to offer a complete solution, including the sorting, collection and decontamination of this infectious medical waste.
Dr Sett: An association of 2 friends in the field of biomedical waste in Senegal
Dr SETT was born from the association of 2 friends: Mr. Habib N’KONOU and Mr. Ille SIBI, who responded to the request of their future customers. The latter spoke to them about the importance of treating biomedical waste in accordance with regulations, and about their difficulties in eliminating this hazardous waste because of the limited capacity of existing solutions.
The market was therefore waiting for a private operator that would be able to offer a specialised and sustainable industrial solution. The two friends, who were already involved in the logistics of biological samples, set about developping a suitable offer for the sorting, collection and transport of biomedical waste.
In the continuity of this tailor-made offer, Dr SETT has completed its services by integrating medical waste packagings and the training of health personnel in the management of biomedical waste.
Later on, the company decided to treat the medical waste it transported itself. In 2022, it acquired a biomedical waste treatment machine (ECOSTERY 75+) and built a beautiful, brand new treatment centre where activities are growing.
Today, the company successfully processes tons of infectious biomedical waste, offering a quality service and impeccable traceability to its customers.
Congratulations to the dynamic and motivated team.
