Ecosteryl is effective against Mpox

Mpox (Monkeypox): A new challenge for public health

On 14 August, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that the resurgence of monkeypox (mpox) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and an increasing number of African countries constituted a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

This viral infection can be transmitted from person to person or through infected animals following close contact. Touching objects and surfaces that have been touched by someone with mpox can also be a source of infection.

Recently, a new clade of mpox has emerged and spread very quickly. It is therefore necessary to quickly control and stop the epidemic.

Ecosteryl’s support in preventing epidemics like Mpox

An often overlooked aspect is the role that specialised companies, like Ecosteryl, can play in preventing the spread of diseases through proper management of infectious waste.

Knowing that touching contaminated surfaces can transmit the disease, it is essential to handle potentially infectious medical waste in the most appropriate way by directly treating and disinfecting it.

Ecosteryl’s solution kills viruses and bacteria, including mpox. Our dry heat process (100°C for 1 hour) achieves a disinfection rate of 6log10.

The future of medical waste management

It is becoming essential to re-examine our practices and adopt more sustainable solutions for waste management in the context of infectious diseases. Read our article on Covid-19 and the increase in medical waste.

It is important to consider the support of Ecosteryl and other similar companies as an essential public service rather than just a business opportunity. By providing advanced waste treatment technologies, Ecosteryl directly contributes to global health security by ensuring that infectious waste is properly disinfected, thereby reducing the risks of further transmission. These efforts are also recognised in reference guides such as those of UNICEF and UNDP.

The medical waste management sector is undergoing a transformation, driven by the need for safer, cleaner, and more sustainable practices. With epidemics such as mpox and the lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic, it is clear that effective medical waste management is crucial to preventing future health and environmental crises. It is essential to engage in environmentally friendly practices and promote innovation to ensure a more sustainable future.
